This button up shirt is made from a pastiche of fabric scraps, most notably stars and
stripes of the American flag. In an act of reclamation, North Star boldly asserts
ownership over these national symbols, which have historically been weaponized
against people of color. By repurposing and celebrating these elements, the garment
becomes a powerful statement, challenging and reframing the narrative around
American symbology in the context of inclusion and empowerment.
