The Search for Asian Girls (Midnight Violet) Print

$ 108.00
After the artist's print, "This One's for my Asian girls" was featured in the Strategist (NY Mag) in March 2021, she received multiple messages from strangers visiting her online store, alerting her about the explicit suggested images relating to her work’s title “Asian girls.” Messages included:

“I popped to your Etsy store from NYMag. Your prints are great. But, I was a little surprised that Etsy's algorithm surrounded your print with "You may also like" ads for softcore topless pics for Asian fetishists. Does that bother you? If so, has Etsy responded in any way?” A print intended as a reminder for Asian-American self care and rest instead became another reminder of the ways that Asian women are fetishized, sexualized, and marginalized.

This print, "The Search for Asian girls" is the artist’s response to the algorithmic bias that Asian women continue to face every day. Everything she presents online is now tagged online with the term “Asian girl,” in an effort to insert new narratives to the term.

The print is handmade and unframed.
