Aanya Sachdeva

BFA Fashion Design '27

My name is Aanya Sachdeva and I am a first-year fashion design student at Parsons School of Design. As an artist, I like to brainstorm a wide variety of ideas from my day-to-day observations and experiences. I have drawn inspiration from the rich and radiant blue-domed churches in Santorini, Spanish Flamenco dances, and even from observing myself in the mirror. Some of my pieces have been influenced by techniques and shapes I have admired at art museums. Others are surreal, an abstract reflection of my dreams.

I am passionate about making sustainable art. Being environmentally conscientious, I examine how I can repurpose something before I throw it away. Most of my creations are made from recycled materials, reducing harmful waste.

During my childhood, I enjoyed playing dress up with my American Girl dolls and was most fascinated by their wide range of clothing and houses. It kindled my interest in designing and creating garments for them. I collected recyclables and scrap materials and used them to build a dream home for the dolls.

My art is also influenced by my childhood in that I enjoy embracing the little imperfections, from raw edges to bold color palettes. My art style is now known to be striking and unique. I love experimenting and creating abstract art with mixed patterns reflecting my emotions. Without worrying about producing the perfect piece of work, I focus on my problem-solving and design-thinking abilities to create innovative art.

I also believe in combining art with service. At the age of 11, I launched AanyasBOWtique, a business selling handmade clothing, accessories, and jewelry. All sales proceeds are donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds childhood cancer research. Through countless fundraisers and its online presence, AanyasBOWtique has donated over $15,000 to this meaningful cause.

I aim to utilize my artistic and creative skills to produce ethical and sustainable art. I want to do all that I can to help the underprivileged and make this world a better place to live. I look forward to using my passion for meaningful art to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of others and the planet.
